At 5:40 a.m., the thermometer looked close to 32 degrees F, but it might have been 33. My thermometer is not a precision instrument…. I wonder whether there was a frost last night? It’s too dark to see whether there’s frost on the grass. Not much for stars this morning. Just the solitary bright one on the western horizon, ORION, SIRIUS, and a few others here and there. It’s COLD, and there’s mist rising off the fields. I touched the grass beside the road and got my hand wet, but I still can’t tell whether we had a frost. If we didn’t, it was close. No bird song at all this morning. Home at 6:10 a.m.
