3:45 p.m. in Winooski. Lots of GULLS plus 5 MALLARDS (a female with 4 young?) at the cascades today. I like the sound of the cascades right here at the bottom of Cascade Way. I just noticed a CEDAR WAXWING near the rocks upriver from where the gulls are. Actually there are several of them flying around above the water a bit, then landing on the dead trees caught in the rocks. Just heard a loud DOGDAY HARVESTFLY. Spotted a ROBIN in the grass right next to the Riverwalk. I’m hearing GOLDFINCHES near the lagoon. ROBINS and CEDAR WAXWINGS flying around here too. Heard a KINGFISHER a ways up the river. When I took a short spur down to the river bank, I flushed a small HERON — a GREEN HERON? I think it had black on the top of its head, brown on the back of its neck, and the front of its neck was speckled. Saw a GRAY CATBIRDS on my way back to the Riverwalk.

LATER, at home: Bob says there’s a BLUE-WINGED TEAL hanging around his pond.
