36 degrees F. at noon. Bob says he saw a CHIPMUNK running around under his feeders this morning. It seems strange that it would come out of its underground hideout when it’s been so cold.

3:40 p.m. 34 degrees F. I decided I needed to get out of the house so I suited up and took a walk. I went up the Saxtons’ Boundary Trail to the logging road and came back down by way of the Thinking Bench and Pond. Not much activity in the woods this afternoon, but lots of tracks crisscrossing the trail. I heard a RAVEN, some GOLDFINCHES, and a DOWNY WOODPECKER. And now it’s snowing again. Not much to show for 40 minutesof wandering in the woods, but I’m glad I got out. One of my New Year’s resolutions is to spend more time outdoors.
