TUESDAY MAY 15, 1979  SONG SPARROW NEST!
Saw an ORIOLE fly across the side yard this afternoon. Saw a pair of ROSE-BREASTED GROSBEAKS together in a tree not far from the road. Saw a VEERY, I think — rust-red back, gray breast, streaking under the chin (I think), no lines or rings near the eyes, beak a little longer than a finch beak, twitching tail. Found my little SONG SPARROW’S NEST this evening. Two nights in a row I flushed her right beside the trail through the Heath’s wildflower meadow. Tonight I looked into the grass and saw her EGGS — five of them — in a tidy little ground nest. Heard BULLFROGS tonight. Saw THREE BEAVERS.
