40 degrees and raining. Dreary day. In the back orchard the trees are strung with tubing, but the sap is dripping onto the ground instead of into the milk cans. One tube is broken. The tractor is out in the rain. The gathering tank is uncovered, with the gathering pails right side up collecting rain water. Both the gathering tank and the flatbed have their tongues in the mud. One of the wind thrown trees in the Hemlock Swamp has tipped farther over and uprooted a section of path. The corn can from the blind on the machine-dug pond is out on the ice, and some of the black tar paper lining the inside the blind has been torn off.
